Kenya Meteorology Department (Kenya Met) on Friday, May 3, informed Nairobi Metropolitan residents to brace themselves for a heavy downpour later in the day.

In a statement, Kenya Met noted that selected areas were projected to receive heavy rainfall, between 50 - 80 mm levels in the course of the evening.

These areas include Embakasi South, Makadara, Embakasi Central, Embakasi North and Ruaraka.

Areas around Embakasi East, Kasarani and parts of Roysambu were projected to hit a 100mm level of rainfall.

Westlands, Kibra, Starehe, Kamukunji, Embakasi West and parts of Dagoretti North, Roysambu and its environs will receive moderate rainfall between 20 to 50 mm.

At the same time, Lang'ata, Dagoretti South, and parts of Dagoretti North will receive low rainfall of between 2 to 20 mm.

In Kiambu County, estates such as Kikuyu, Kiambaa, Kiambu Town, Gatundu South, Thika Town, Limuru and Kabete will receive low rainfall while Gatundu North, Lari and Juja will experience moderate rainfall in the evening.

Juja was highlighted as the estate projected to receive heavy downpours within the next 24 hours.

In Kajiado County, parts of Kajiado West, Central and East will receive low to moderate rainfall with only slight cases of heavy downpours experienced in small sections.

The ongoing rainfall has disrupted day-to-day activities across the country since the onset in March 2024.

In a past interview, Kenya Met boss David Gikungu explained that the rainfall was not El Nino but enhanced long rains.

"It is the same signal of El Nino that has triggered the excess rainfall that we are still observing to date," he noted.
