The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Friday, May 4, arrested a senior Nairobi county official over corruption allegations.

The arrest was made following the completion of investigations which targeted the suspect who works as an Assistant Director at Nairobi County Government.

According to EACC detectives, the suspect who is currently under custody was responsible for the Development Control, Built Environment and Urban Planning.

“As part of ongoing corruption investigations in various Departments of Nairobi City County Government, EACC on Friday undertook a successful investigative operation on the suspect,” the EACC detectives noted.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation conducted in Kisii, Nairobi and Ngong as detectives pursued the suspect.

After days of trailing the suspect, detectives managed to arrest the accused who was later escorted to the EACC Integrity Centre where he recorded a statement.

According to detectives, the suspect was arrested on the allegation of using his office to engage in corruption and economic crimes.

The accused is said to have accumulated multi-million wealth which the EACC officers claimed was not commensurate to his known legitimate sources of income.

“Subject to the outcome of the investigation, the ensuing action may include criminal prosecution and/or proceedings for forfeiture of any assets found to have been corruptly acquired,” the EACC officers said.

The arrest comes barely a week after the anti-corruption officers arrested Taita Taveta County Assembly clerk over his alleged involvement in a Ksh17 million graft scandal.

His arrest followed a High Court ruling in Voi, where a case he filed against the EACC and ODPP seeking to halt his arrest and prosecution was dismissed.

The clerk was among those accused of fraudulent expenditure relating to a bonding trip undertaken by 21 MCAs to Zanzibar in 2022.
