Kenya Railways Issues Notice to 24 Landlords Over SGR Phase 2

The National Lands Commission (NLC) has issued a notice to 24 landlords who own parcels along the Naivasha-Nairobi corridor whose land is required for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Phase 2A Supplementary Project.

In a Gazette Notice dated March 25, NLC, which was acting on behalf of Kenya Railways Corporation, invited the land owners to lodge in their claims for compensation.

The claims should be forwarded to four locations including the Tuala Chief's Office, the Scheme 6 Chief’s Office, the Oloolua Chief’s Office, and the Suswa Chief’s Office. The claims should be lodged between June 17 and June 21 this year.

"The National Land Commission on behalf of Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) gives notice that the inquiry to hear claims to Compensation for interested parties land required for Nairobi– Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway Project (Phase 2A)," read the notice in part.

"Every person interested in the affected land is required to deliver to the National Land Commission on or before the day of the inquiry a written claim to compensation, a copy of identify card (ID), Personal Identification No. (PIN), land ownership documents and bank account details. The Commission offices are in Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi and at the National Land Commission’s County Co-coordinator’s Office in Kajiado County."

In a separate notice, the commission announced that it was gearing up to delete details of three parcels and add them as part of the project.

It, as a result, announced that inspection of the parcels was scheduled to take place in Nairobi and Kajiado counties.

"The National Land Commission on behalf of Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) gives notice that the National Government intends to delete and add the parcels of land required for the Nairobi–Naivasha SGR Project (Phase 2A): Supplementary Project," added the notice.

"Plans for the affected land may be inspected during office hours at the office of the National Land Commission, Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi and at the National Land Commission’s County Co-ordinator’s Office in Kajiado County."

The SGR project cut through five counties including Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Nakuru and Narok.

The project has a total length of 120 kilometers and complete with 6 terminals.

President William Ruto is determined to stretch the railway line to the Kenya-Uganda border for regional trade with neighbouring countries.
