An office officer attached to Nakuru Central Police Station in Nakuru County on Wednesday died by suicide following an altercation with his two wives.

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the officer became disgruntled after both of his wives left their matrimonial home following the dispute.

At the time, he was left with his two daughters aged 16 years and 12 years.

"Further it was also established from the reportee that the deceased had been sickly and depressed and that on various occasions he had said to them that his life was coming to an end soon," the report read in part.

At 11:30 am on Wednesday, the officer is reported to have spent his time at a house under construction within his homestead, leaving his children inside the home.

He took a sisal rope and tied it on a roof timber inside the incomplete house and hanged himself.

His eldest daughter stumbled upon the officer's body during midday and contacted the police.

The Nakuru-based officers visited the scene and documented the events to establish what transpired.

No suicide note was found inside the house. Further scrutiny of his body revealed that the deceased lacked visible injuries.

He was subsequently taken to PNN Mortuary in Nakuru after the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) arrived at the scene.

The incident highlights the precarious nature of police officers go through in their line of work. This has resulted in a surge of suicide cases involving law enforcers as a result of mental health issues.

To mitigate the situation, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) introduced mental wealth programs for senior officers to assist their juniors in coping with career and family issues.

Counsellors, medics, and psychologists recommend seeking help whenever you experience any mental health issue. Call the Kenya Red Cross toll-free hotline, 1199, for support.
