Four people have reportedly died following a tragic road accident along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi Highway on the night of Monday, September 15.

The crash, which occurred in the Kalimbini area near Sultan Hamud, involved a collision between a private car and a lorry.

Images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke show that the smaller vehicle was severely mangled following the impact, while the lorry sustained damage to the driver's cabin.

Police and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene to aid the retrieval of the bodies and tow away the wreckage, clearing the busy highway.

The exact number of people who sustained injuries in the accident was yet to be confirmed by the time of publication.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital and the bodies were taken to Sultan Hamud mortuary, as both vehicles were moved to Sultan Hamud Police Station.

The accident happened just weeks after two people died and three others were injured following a horrific road accident on the same section of the highway at Kwa Mautiiyo in Malili.

The fatal Malili accident happened when a trailer rammed into an oncoming pick-up truck before crashing into another trailer travelling in the same direction.

According to reports, the pickup truck was overtaking one of the trailers when it collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.

David Kandie, the Athi River South Sub-County Police Commander, confirmed that the accident killed the two victims instantly.

The latest incident adds to the number of road accidents that have taken place since August and September began.

The National Transport and Safety Authority has urged motorists using the highway to observe traffic rules and exercise caution, especially at night, to curb the rising number of accident cases in the country.
