A group of activists gathered along Agha Khan Walk in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) on Thursday, October 9, as they marched to the Uganda High Commission Chancery in Nairobi.

They were demanding the release of two Kenyan politicians, Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who had been arrested in Kampala, Uganda.

Njagi and Oyoo were reportedly abducted in Uganda on October 1 by four armed officials believed to be security officials.

Reportedly, the two were abducted after attending a political campaign on Wednesday afternoon at a petrol station.

The activists had attended a meeting with Bobi Wine, the presidential candidate of the National Unity Platform and main opponent of incumbent President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming general elections.

The protesting group also appealed to East African heads of state to address the trend of abductions and to allow freedom of speech.

Activist Maryanne Kasina said that activists will not relent until they receive an answer.

“For five days, we do not know their whereabouts and an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Seeing what has been happening in the context of abduction in our country, the people must be listened to,” she said.

On October 2, Ugandan nationals denied allegation, stating that it has no report of the two being in police custody.

Ugandan National Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke stated that if he had any information, he would have presented it to the public.

“On the matter of the two Kenyan activists who disappeared in Uganda, I am not briefed by the police that we have them in our custody. So at the moment, I do not have any information to the effect that they are in police custody,” he said.

“If I had any information on their whereabouts of the two activists, I would present it here without any reservation,” the spokesperson noted.
