Auctioneers, accompanied by armed police, on Thursday raided the home of Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara and seized one of her personal cars alongside goats and sheep.
According to reports, the raid was allegedly linked to an election petition pitting the MP and a former Naivasha MP.
The vocal MP had earlier joined protesting locals and accused President William Ruto’s government of aiding the grabbing of part of Kenya Railways' land in Naivasha.
The MP linked the raid to an attempt to intimidate and silence her for supporting former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
“The OCS had called me saying that he was under pressure to implement an order by the auctioneers and I told him that I should be present when it was carried out,” said Kihara.
The MP said that there was a pending petition at the Court of Appeal, so she could not understand how her opponent in the case had obtained a court order authorising the raid.
“All the goats and sheep taken belong to my son as I do not have any livestock and the hired youths stole some of the livestock during the raid,” she added.
The raid came just weeks after police stormed the home as the MP hosted a meeting.
In the raid by anti-riot police, which Kihara livestreamed on social media, she was bundled into a police car and taken to Naivasha Police Station. She was later released on a bond of Ksh50,000.
Kenya Railways Land
Earlier on Thursday, October 9, MP Kihara, had joined irate locals in protesting against an ongoing construction of a multi-billion-shilling development on a Kenya Railways land.
Kihara demanded full disclosure of the entities behind the new project, accusing the government of orchestrating the eviction of locals from the same land three years ago.
“The President must tell Kenyans who is developing the Kenya Railways land in Naivasha town,” Kihara said.
“It has not been forgotten that the people of Naivasha were evicted and property worth millions of shillings destroyed,” she added.
