At least two people have been injured after an oil tanker exploded at the Mbaraki terminal near Nakumatt Supermarket Likoni in Mombasa County.
Reports indicate that the tanker hit a wall at around lunch hour leading to the explosion.
The incident is said to have led to a huge fire at the fuel facility attracting a huge crowd.
Police officers and the fire brigade have responded to the incident.
Residents who were present were evacuated from several buildings around the facility and oil tankers driven out of the area.
Kenya Power has also disconnected electricity supply lines in the surrounding.
The National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) asked members of the public to keep off the terminus to allow the Emergency Response team to deal with the incident.
Further reports indicate that the fire has been contained as rescue operations continue.
