Selfies are a seamlessly harmless and fun way to express yourself and for most millennials- Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat is not complete without some selfies.
And what better way to make memories than to take selfies with friends and family?
However, did you know there are places in Nairobi where taking a selfie could land you in jail?
Yes, you read that right- Jail!
Here are a couple of these places:
Kenya National Archives
National Archives is located smack in the Central Business District and with its distinct design, it’s very unlikely to miss.
The place is a favourite for history buffs and enthusiasts alike and you would only have to part with Sh50 to witness Kenyan history and culture at its best.
However, this is one place you definitely do not want to take a selfie because photography is prohibited and there are dire consequences for doing so.

ABC Place in Westlands.
This was a shocker, even for me - but taking a photo of this distinct building will get you in trouble with the authorities.
The building is a one-stop shopping place with a supermarket and quite a number of restaurants giving you all the more reason to take selfies.
Beware, however, as the management is always on the lookout.

Outside State House
This is no surprise - for obvious security reasons, of course, to fight the urge at all costs.
The same applies to military bases such as the Barracks and Department of Defence (D.o.D) and other government institutions.

That said, there is no need to fret as Nairobi has a lot of to offer in as far taking selfies is concerned.
Take Village Market, for example, which has existed for quite a while now, popular with expatriates due its location has a myriad of activities to engage in.
You can shop, grab some lunch at the food court and at the end it all with some frozen yoghurt at Planet Yoghurt.
The bowling alley which had been closed is also coming back , so pretty much, many photos can be taken at the establishment.

If nature is what excites you, then Karura forest or even Paradise Lost along Kiambu road is the perfect place to unwind.
This gem offers a maze of caves and a beautiful waterfall that will leave you with a wonder of just how majestic water in motion is.
You can also indulge yourself in the various entertaining activities offered like horse-riding, boating or camping.
There are no limits as to what you can do with your phone camera at this juncture.
For the adventurous types, a one and a half road trip to Mount Suswa coupled with a camping experience will satisfy your need for a thrill.

You can take in the extensive Rift Valley and capture artistic photos of the sunset in the valley and document your adventure on Instagram.
Nairobi and Kenya at large have a lot to offer and it is about time you stop reading about it and start experiencing it.
