Police Driver Knocks Nation Journalists While Ferrying Female Passengers

A police lorry driver on Monday rammed a vehicle carrying NTV journalists from an assignment after they attempted to photograph him driving on the wrong side of the road.

At the time the incident occurred, the officer was seen carrying two female passengers in the lorry with Reg No. GKB 509R along Cardinal Otunga street at around 3:30 pm.

He knocked the vehicle carrying the Nation Media journalists and immediately drove off asking them to report wherever they wished.

According to the reporters, the officer briefly stopped the lorry and asked them whether they had taken enough photos of him driving on the wrong side of the road trying to beat traffic.

The truck driver hit the nation vehicle, causing damage on the rear lights of the nation pick-up vehicle before driving off.

The reporters proceeded to report the matter to the Nairobi area traffic division where the police run details of the lorry's registration to ascertain the station where it is attached.

The incident comes at a time of several incidents of civilians and traffic police officers engaging in physical confrontations over alleged harassment by the law enforcers.

During the weekend, a viral video emerged on social media capturing an agitated tuk-tuk operator fighting two officers.

The tuk-tuk driver, who has since spoken to the media about the incident, accused the officers of initiating the fight and destroying his windscreen.
