62 passengers on their way to Nakuru escaped death as the bus they were traveling in burst into flames along the Kericho-Nakuru highway after it rammed into a lorry.
According to Kericho County Police Commander Rose Muchuma, the bus driver had attempted to overtake the lorry when it encountered an oncoming vehicle. The bus had to swerve back to its lane when it accidentally hit the lorry and on impact caught fire she added.
The accident occurred near Chepsir trading centre in Kericho which is now being referred to as a black spot by residents. Kericho County Government fire fighters called to the scene successfully put out the fire as police officers and Red-Cross officials worked to ensure that lives were saved and property was secured.
Both drivers and those injured were rushed to various hospitals in Kericho town with the number of casualties unestablished. The wrecked truck and Modern Western Coach bus were taken to the County Police Station where further investigations would be conducted.
