Michael Onyango has helped revamp 24 schools in Homa Bay County and continues to help children from humble backgrounds access free education.
The former Kisumu County ICT minister seeks to empower Africa's forgotten millions by sharing scholarship opportunities in several WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms like Linkedin.
Onyango, who currently works as the Regional Director for Communication at Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, has come up with an initiative called Global Leadership Program for Africa.
This is an initiative through which he and his colleagues use to disseminate scholarship opportunities.
His efforts have seen his programs get funding from organizations such as Safaricom through a simple post shared in the WhatsApp group.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Alidade Mboya, the program Director for the Kenya Self-Help project mentioned that the Safaricom grant greatly assisted in the creation of the Early Child Development Education (ECDE) classroom fully furnished with desks and girls' toilets.
In another success story on his Linkedin post, he shared a testament of a young Kenyan who applied for a scholarship through a WhatsApp link to Master of Science (Msc) in Global Health for Trinity College in Dublin.
This is an example of other efforts he makes to ensure that the youth are empowered economically. In a WhatsApp group seen by Kenyans.co.ke, in a single day he shares over fifty scholarship opportunities.
To be part of the WhatsApp group, one must be keen on his social media posts or send him a personal message at Michael Onyango. He believes in using social media to change lives.
