Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has finally opened up on Deputy President William Ruto's move to reject his Ksh 40,000 donation during a fundraiser in his county.

Speaking on Friday, February 5, on Inooro TV, Senator Kang'ata stated that he did not feel humiliated nor disappointed with the DP.

He went on to advise people selling political seats or any other form of leadership to understand and practice respect for those who are above them.

Kangata, who is seeking to vie in the Muranga gubernatorial race, added that he has admiration for the DP and is still a staunch member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

"It is important to humble yourself before your leaders and I do not harbour any hard feelings against DP Ruto," he stated.

The Murang'a Senator also dismissed claims that United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders disrespect President Uhuru Kenyatta, in the DP's presence.

He noted that he disagrees with those who castigate Uhuru, the Head of State. Kan'g'ata urged all politicians to campaign peacefully and sell their manifesto.

"It is imperative for all leaders and their supporters to be peaceful and respectful during this election period. I also urged young people to embrace competitors in politics," the lawmaker underlined.

The senator also stated that he will be having a fundraiser in Murang'a which the DP won't attend. He, however, did not disclose the reasons why. The senator embarked on a door to door campaign in his county, championing the bottom-up approach.

During the last fundraiser in Murang'a, DP Ruto led the fund drive at Gatunyu Grounds on Wednesday, November 3 where he launched a Ksh100 million kitty to support disadvantaged learners in the region.

Leaders and guests matched forward and presented their envelopes to the second in command who announced what each had contributed. When Kang’ata got to the podium, he handed Ksh40,000 to Ruto who declined to take the contribution.

DP Ruto then challenged Senator Kang'ata to increase his contribution and teased him that a leader of his calibre and a Murang'a gubernatorial aspirant should donate more than Ksh40,000.

"You want to be governor, Ksh40,000 is not enough for a gubernatorial candidate, go and look for Ksh100,000 and bring here. A governor can't give Ksh40,000," the DP said amid laughter from the crowd.
