Former TNA Secretary-General Onyango Oloo has revealed that the Opposition politicians and supporters have been pleading with him to join the ODM Party which is dominant in Kisumu County where he comes from.
Oloo stated that despite being a strong supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta, most of his friends and family are supporters of the Opposition adding that they often request him to switch sides.
“Most of my relatives and friends belong to the opposition and most of them have been telling me to ‘come back home’, the lawyer narrated.
He added, “I walk in the streets and everybody tells me pole (sorry). I assure you that I am strongly in Jubilee and I have never met a good reason to make me join the opposition.”
However, Oloo was quick to point out that his friends and family have accepted that he is not an enemy of his community but only had ideological differences with the popular party in the area.
The former TNA operative is regarded as one of Kenyatta’s most loyal aides despite the fact that he comes from a community perceived to be hostile to the Jubilee regime.
He dismissed those who perceive his stand as a betrayal to the Luo community, stating that the spirit of nationhood looks beyond communities.
“I am not the first Luo to have been the Secretary General of a ruling party. Tom Mboya did it with President Jomo Kenyatta in the 1960s when Oginga Odinga was also seeking the Presidency, and Raila Odinga did it with President Moi," Oloo stated.
