PHOTOS: Evangelist Ruto Before Joining Politics

Back in the day, before Deputy President William Ruto became a political heavyweight, he was a staunch christian evangelist spreading the gospel across the country.

In some old pictures, a former DP's colleague at the university, Ezekial Mutua, now CEO of the Kenya Films and Classification Board (KFCB), shared nostalgic pictures depicting Ruto in his humble beginnings before he ascended to the second most powerful position in the land.

“Evangelist WSR (William Samoei Ruto) back in the day. . .Now Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. Truly inspiring. This is what happens when you serve God diligently in your youth!” wrote Mutua on his Facebook.

In the pictures, Ruto is seen carrying a bible and hymnals after attending a christian crusade at an unknown location.

Ruto was participated in evangelical work especially when he was a student at Kapsabet Boys High School and the University of Nairobi, where he graduated in 1990.

He has since become an active politician with pundits billing him as a political influencer, holding great command over the Rift Valley vote basket.

Ruto who is now the Deputy President has, however, had his share of bad publicity after being accused severally of participating in dubious dealings.
