Raila Team Disappointed at IEBC Offices

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders were on Tuesday left frustrated at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) headquarters, after the electoral officials failed to show up for a meeting between the two factions.

The meeting failed to take off after the leaders including the coalition's principals: Raila OdingaMoses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka, discovered that IEBC Commissioners were not at their Anniversary Towers offices.

The Opposition leaders had visited the headquarters to discuss the verification of Okoa Kenya referendum signatures, which they claimed had taken too long contrary to their expectation.

However, the electoral body defended its officers, saying that most of them were engaged in monitoring the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The body further explained that its Chairman, Isaak Hassan, was held up in a different meeting hence would not be available to discuss their concerns.

Addressing supporters outside the Anniversary offices, the CORD leaders termed the absence of the Commissioners as a move to belittle their party, adding that they would contemplate their next action.

The coalition had submitted the signatures in December last year, after which IEBC promised that it would verify their authenticity by end of February, but failed to do so prompting the concern.
