Woman Fined Ksh 40 Million For Possessing Elephant Tusks

A woman has been fined Ksh 40 million shillings in Kilgoris, Narok County after being found guilty of possession of elephant tusks.

Ruth Kwamboka Mose was found guilty by Senior Resident Magistrate Amos Mokoross after the prosecution established that she was found with five pieces of elephant tusks without a certificate of ownership.

Kwamboka pleaded guilty to the charge along with a second charge of of dealing with government trophy without a license.

According to The Nation if Kwmaboka fails to pay the fine, she will be convicted to 4 years in prison.

The court heard that the woman had previously been convicted of a similar felony and was currently serving a 3 year jail term.

The conviction comes in the wake of several cases where ivory presumed to be from Kenya have been confiscated.
