The government has pressed terrorism charges against two allies linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The two allies, Peter Kinyanjui Kawanjiru and Serah Wanjiku Thiga, have been charged with the alleged arson of Kikuyu Law Courts, according to a charge sheet obtained by Kenyans.co.ke.
The charges that were presented in court by the Anti Terrorism Police Unit(ATPU) and approved by the Director of Public Prosecutions, stated that the two not only caused damage to the law courts but also to other government establishments within the vicinity.
"On the 25th day of June, 2025 between 1200 hours and 2300 hours in Kikuyu area within Kiambu County, you and others before court, committed a terrorist act which resulted to serious damage to Government Offices and Buildings," the charge sheet read in part.
Adding that: "The damages resulted to serious damages to Kikuyu Probation offices, Kikuyu Law Courts, Kikuyu Sub-County Offices, Kikuyu Chief’s Office, Kikuyu Registrar of Persons’ Offices, Sub-County Education Office, Sub-County Accountant’s Office, Kikuyu Registrar of Lands Offices, Dagoretti Police Post and Kikuyu Deputy County Commissioners’ Office, among others, the property of the Kenyan Government."
The Director of Criminal Investigations' officers are said to have forcibly removed Kawanjiru, the DCP Youth leader, from his home at night on July 1 in front of his family.
The family claims that at approximately 8:30pm, the officers, dressed in civilian clothes, stormed their Limuru home, broke down doors, and strewn everything while claiming to be there to take him into custody.
Eyewitnesses and family members described how the incident started, saying that more than ten cars stormed the area, followed by a power outage, loud banging, gunshots, and mayhem.
After four days, Kawanjiru appeared in court. However, after the DCP leader was arrested again by anti-terror police, drama ensued outside the Ruiru Courts in Kiambu County, even though the court had released him.
Chaos broke out as Kawanjiru was on his way home after securing a bond for his release.
In videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, anti-terror police forcefully grabbed Kawanjiru into a moving van, while others fired gunshots.
The court's vicinity was filled with shouts from supporters and family trying to block the re-arrest; however, the shouts were in vain as the police still managed to forcefully take him away.
