Police in the Emuhaya Constituency in Vihiga County have launched investigations after a teacher’s body was found near the assistant chief’s office in Emakakha village.

The death comes after unknown assailants mysteriously killed two more people, a security guard and a businessman in the same area.

According to the Emuhaya Member of Parliament (MP) Omboko Milemba, the cases reported have remained uninvestigated as police posts remain empty.

Omboko called upon the Inspector General (IG) of police Japheth Koome to deploy officers to the area stations to boost security and help with investigations.

“I was told to build the police post at Emurembe and I did, but there are no officers. The same goes for the Emuhaya and Ipali police posts,” he decried.

“IG needs to send people, his job includes maintaining security and protecting people, so I’, calling Koome to do his job.”

The region Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) representative Johnstone Malenya called for a fast probe into the death of the teacher, citing gunshots that were heard around the area.

“We heard gunshots yesterday and no one has been arrested. Now we have a dead teacher,” Malenya noted.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Moses Indiri explained the insecurity in the area due to the lack of police officers in various stations.

“If the police vehicles are far they need to add more. We don’t want to be given a seven-day timeline, we want the vehicles today,” he demanded.

The country has in recent days recorded over 100 deaths, with 45 caused by deadly floods that swept an entire village in the Mai Mahiu area on Monday morning.

The tragedy, now termed a national disaster, has resulted from heavy rainfall and flash floods which wreaked havoc in villages and towns. People living in risky areas such as along bodies have been advised to vacate to higher grounds.
