The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC) on Wednesday announced water rationing in ten Nairobi estates amid the ongoing floods.

In a notice, the company explained that the water supply pipeline along Outer Ring Road was washed away on Wednesday at the Ngong River Crossing caused by the floods being experienced in the country.

As a result, homes served this pipeline will be adversely affected until the rain subsides.

The ten Nairobi estates include Fedha Estate, Tassia, Nyayo Embakasi Estate, Embakasi Village, Avenue Park 1 and 2 estates.

The remaining estates include; Pipeline, Plot 10 estates, Embakasi Jua Kali and the surrounding areas.

"We urge the affected customers to use the available water they will be getting sparingly. Any inconveniences are highly regretted," the notice read in part.

The company informed the affected Nairobi residents that engineers are on-site to provide a temporary solution in the meantime.

"We have mobilised our engineers to the site and temporary repairs are ongoing to enable us to provide water with low pressure from our Mombasa Road pipeline to the affected estates," NCWSC stated.

"Once the rain subsides we shall reinstate the Ngong River pipeline river crossing at Kware."

Following the announcement made on Wednesday night, the company later issued a follow-up, revealing that repairs were underway.

As the country continues to experience raging floods, Nairobi is not the only county that has issued a water rationing program.

On April 30, Thika Water Company announced a water rationing program after Chania River broke its banks and spilled over to the company, affecting its pipes.

One of the directors explained that the water rationing program would continue until they resumed full-capacity operation.
