President William Ruto on Friday appointed former West Mugirango MP Vincent Mogaka Kemosi as the country's ambassador to Accra, Ghana, weeks after he declined the job.
The former lawmaker was among the ambassadors nominated for the position during President Ruto's nominations to serve Kenya's interests abroad.
Parliament vetted the nominees and names were forwarded to the head of state for official appointment.
Interestingly, former MP Mogaka wrote to Parliament and confirmed that he would not appear for the vetting as he had declined the nomination.
In a Gazette Notice published in the local dailies, President Ruto appointed him for the role despite not undergoing vetting and rejecting the offer.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 132 (2) (e) of the Constitution, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces appoint (said Names) to be High Commissioners, Ambassadors, Permanent Representatives and Consuls-General in Kenya's Foreign Mission," read part of the notice.
In the notice, 26 ambassadors and High Commissioners were appointed including former Communications Authority (CA) Director-General (DG) Ezra Chiloba for position as Kenya's Consular General in Los Angeles, California State, USA.
During his vetting process, Chiloba had a tall task explaining to the legislators why his resignations from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and CA were controversial.
However, he presented a letter from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) which cleared him of all accusations and gave the green light for his suitability for the foreign service.
During the vetting, he also revealed a net worth of Ksh800 million, explaining that he earned decent income from his past employments.
The MPs also raised concern about Charles Githinji, the ambassadorial nominee in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo over his lack of understanding of diplomatic issues.
The lawmakers declined his nomination and he was obstructed from the list of appointments.
