Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi Arrested

Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi was on Monday afternoon arrested by police.

Mwirigi was handcuffed and taken to Mikinduri police Station for mobilising Probox and motorcycle drivers to oppose the ongoing road safety crackdown.

Tigania East divisional police commander Sammy Kosgei confirmed his arrest.

On Sunday, taxi operators in Meru threatened to hold major protests over what they termed as harassment by police.

The motorists accused officers enforcing the ongoing crackdown of harassing them despite having complied with the legal requirements.

Mwirigi is Kenya's youngest MP, an orphan who went to a day school through well-wishers and never dished out money to be elected in the 2017 general elections.
