An autopsy conducted on the body of the late Gichugu Constituency returning officer, Geoffrey Gitobu, has ruled out foul play as a cause of his death.

The post mortem results released on Wednesday, August 24, showed that the deceased succumbed to a blood clot in the artery.

Gitobu collapsed and passed away on Monday, August 22 outside the IEBC offices in Nanyuki, Laikipia County with rumours claiming that his death may have been plotted and orchestrated by unidentified individuals.

The 57-year-old had complained of feeling dizzy while driving within the town with his brother who rushed him to a nearby clinic.

Medics who were alerted about the emergency quickly called for an ambulance as his condition had worsened.

Gitobu was rushed to a local private hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Laikipia East sub-county police commander, John Tarus, dismissed reports that were circulating online, alleging that his death was tied to the concluded 2022 General Election.

“When Gitobu was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, the brother reported the matter at Nanyuki Police Station. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to his death,” Tarus stated.

The police boss added that they were treating his death as a case of sudden death pending the autopsy that was conducted on Wednesday, August 24.

Gitobu was a prominent businessman in Nanyuki town, owning several commercial buildings.

His sudden demise came barely a week after Embakasi East Returning Officer Daniel Musyoka, who went missing on Thursday, August 18, was found dead.

The family confirmed that Musyoka's body was retrieved at Amboseli Park, Kajiado county.
