Mumias Sugar to Shut Down For 3 Months For Routine Repairs and Maintenance

Mumias Sugar Board of Director chairman Dr Kennedy Ngumau Mulwa has explained that the company will close down for three months.

Mulwa stated that the sugar miller would suspend its operations for a Normal Out of Crop (OOC) closure as earlier indicated by the company.

He further dismissed claims circulating in sections of the media indicating that Mumias had closed indefinitely.

In a presser dated 4th April 2017, the company gave notice to their farmers and other valued stakeholders that it would take advantage of the prevailing weather conditions to shut down the factory for routine OOC repair for a period of three months.

The company, however, stated that during exercise, farmers would continue receiving their usual crop husbandry and related services to boost the productivity of their sugar cane crop.

"This is to bring to the notice to our farmers and other valued stakeholders that management of Mumias Sugar company limited wishes to take advantage of the prevailing weather conditions to shut down the factory for routine repairs and maintenance scheduled for a period of three months.

"I wish to take this opportunity on behalf of our board of directors and management to thank all of our esteemed stakeholders for unrelenting support over the duration of the ending crop seasons and look forward to an even stronger partnering over the closure period and upon resumption of milling operations," the statement read in part.
