Update: KURA issued a notice stating that the Aerodrome Road and Airport North Road at Cabanas were passable, however motorists were requested to exercise caution as they approached the sections.

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has partially closed four roads in Nairobi while issuing a traffic advisory for motorists on Mombasa Road and Thika Road.

The partial closure is a result of heavy flooding experienced across the country which has rendered the four roads impassable.

Aerodrome Road, which cuts on the Upper side of the Nyayo National Stadium and Upper Hill, Nairobi is one of the roads that has been closed down.

Secondly, Kapenguria Road, which is off Waiyaki Way and close to Ndumbuini  has also been rendered impassable and motorists are advised to keep off the road.

KURA has also warned motorists against using another key road, UN Avenue which cuts through Runda and has partially closed it.

Additionally, the Kasarani- Mwiki Road has also been partially closed at the Mwiki Bridge.

In addition to closing the roads, KURA also issued a traffic advisory for motorists plying Mombasa Road at Cabanas and Thika Road at Githurai and the Kahawa Sukari bridge.

However, they assured that the traffic police and their technical team were on the ground to direct traffic and enhance the safety of motorists.

The road closures come after a heavy downpour rocked various parts of the city, causing floods and disruption on major roads in the city.

Within the Central Business District, two trees fell along Moi Avenue blocking access for both motorists and pedestrians.

Additionally, heavy traffic snarl-ups were experienced on Wednesday morning along major highways as lanes were closed and motorists forced to seek alternative routes.

The Kenya Railways Authority has also suspended commuter trains within the city citing safety reasons.

"We wish to notify members of the public that commuter train services have been temporarily suspended due to ongoing heavy rains that have affected rail lines," the corporation said in a notice.
