Citizen TV crime and investigative journalist Hassan Mugambi is set to leave Royal Media Services (RMS) in the coming days to take up a role at the Ministry of Defence.
Kenyans.co.ke through its sources who spoke on condition of anonymity on Wednesday, February 14, established that the journalist is currently serving notice ahead of his departure.
Upon leaving Citizen TV, the anchor will assume the role of communication advisor at Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale's office.
"Mugambi's new role is set to commence in March," the media insider aware of developments at Citizen TV stated.
A source on Monday, February 12, was the first to disclose that Mugambi and political reporter Cehmutai Goin were set to leave Royal Media Services.
"I can confirm to that Mugambi is joining CS Duale's office while Goin will move to Speaker Wetangula's office," the source stated.
Mugambi, upon being contacted by Kenyans.co.ke did not respond to queries centred around his career and whether he had served notice.
The journalist joined RMS in September 2016 after serving as a news anchor at K24, which is owned by Mediamax Network Limited.
At Citizen TV, he rose over the ranks from a reporter to a Swahili news anchor. Among his latest duties was anchoring news shows including Sema na Citizen alongside Lulu Hassan on Fridays.
Mugambi's departure is a big blow to the station based along Dennis Pritt Road given the recent exits.
Notably, he will be departing the station alongside political reporter Chemutai Goin, who is poised for a job at National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula's office.
Other notable, journalists who have left the station in recent months include Sam Ogina, Raquel Mugai and Francis Gachuri, who currently serves as the Head of Communications at the Ministry of Interior.
Gachuri left RMS in March 2023 after serving for 16 years.
On the other hand, the station has also been recruiting journalists from other media houses as they seek to cover the departures.
Among the latest entries to the Kilimani-based station include business anchor Jimmy Mbogoh and Jasmine Wambui who were poached from Standard Media Group's KTN News.
"To some personal news now, my time at KTN/KTN News has come to an end after what was a very fulfilling year of storytelling. This has been the greatest storm in my life and I'm glad it happened because it has helped me discover myself," Mbogoh stated while leaving KTN News.
