A detective who investigated the murder of two Indians linked to President William Ruto's campaign revealed details of a text message one of the suspects sent his colleague from the defunct Special Service Unit (SSU) after the incident.

In a testimony before Kahawa Law Courts on March 26, the witness revealed one of the suspects inquired from his colleague whether he needed to revisit the crime scene to clear it.

According to the witness, further analysis of the phones revealed that the suspect got a response text informing him that another officer had already cleared the scene.

The crime scene that was being referenced is the Aberdares National Park where it is believed that the bodies of the Indians, allegedly killed in July 2022, were dumped.

"The witness said that between July 20 and August 11, 2023,  the investigating team analysed and went through the phone extraction report and established from one of the exhibits- a mobile phone belonging to (Officer A) - a communication in one of the chats between him and (Officer B) on October 16, 2022, at 3:57 pm.

"Officer B enquired from Officer A about re-visiting the scene to clear it and there was a reply by Officer A that 'Officer C alienda' referring to one of the accused persons," read the statement by the prosecutor.

Further, detectives in the case also revealed to the court that the vehicles suspected to have been used in the murder were tracked to have been at the national park minutes after the official closure.

Forensic evidence placed the vehicle used by the suspects at one of the entrances of the national park at 6:34 pm.

Additionally, it was noted that the vehicle's details were not recorded at the gate with suspicion that the suspects may have been in cahoot with officers manning the park.

Earlier, another witness, a DCI detective investigating the murders, informed the court of their trip to the Park, adding that various materials were collected for forensic analysis.

"He added that on October 19, 2022, as a team of investigators, they proceeded to Aberdare National Park in Nyeri where they conducted a search and collected exhibits which were forwarded to the government chemist at Kenyatta National Hospital.

"He notes that their visit to Aberdare was informed by the vehicle tracking logs retrieved from the vehicle suspected to have been used in the crime as per the data retrieved from the National treasury, the custodian of government leased vehicles," read the statement by the ODPP.

The SSU officers allegedly abducted the two Indians, Mohammed Zaid Sami and Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan alongside their taxi driver Nicodemus Mwania Mwange weeks before the 2022 polls.

Reports indicate that the two foreigners were among those who were assisting the President's team with their campaigns.

Investigations into the disappearance of the duo were launched shortly after Ruto ordered the disbarment of the special police unit that was attached to the DCI.
