Update, Thursday, March 28: Police Officers on Thursday arrested several suspects linked to a gang that has been robbing motorists along the Waiyaki Way.

The suspects were nabbed in an early morning raid led by Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei.

The move was prompted by a public uproar on social media where a brief video depicting three men mugging a motorist near Museum Hill emerged.

During the raid, several suspects were corned hiding inside a trench located a few metres off Waiyaki Way which links Nairobi city to Chiromo and Westlands.

Upon their arrest, the suspects were briefly interrogated before being ferried away in a police vehicle

A video depicting a gang robbing motorists along the Museum Hill interchange has sparked outrage from Kenyans online.

The incident happened in the evening hours of Wednesday, March 27, following a heavy downpour that interrupted traffic flow along the road.

In the widely circulated video, a gang of three men could be seen running towards one of the cars heading to Westlands. At the time, the vehicle was stuck in traffic.

In the 22-second video, the men could be seen momentarily mugging the car driver before making away with their loot into a nearby thicket.

"Please DCI, National Police Service, these thugs need to be shown where they belong," commented a social media user.

Even as fears of using the road surged, motorists were urged to keep their car windows closed following the resurgence of the dreaded Nairobi muggers.

"I witnessed the same less than a week ago. They target Lexus side mirrors. Please DCI, visit the area in the evening hours and arrest the suspects," noted a driver who uses the route.

In a similar incident in January this year, detectives nabbed a gang which robbed 500 boxes of Government textbooks worth millions from a lorry.

However, the lorry was not found at the scene of the crime, the officers established that part of the gang may have sped off with it.

The motor vehicle carrying the books might have been hijacked and hijackers offloaded the books," the DCI officials stated.

"The goods were abandoned far away from the prying public," the statement added.

Following such mugging incidents, Kenyans have called on the DCI to act swiftly to stop lawlessness from creeping back in within the Capital.
